JANE ROWLANDS ROVING REPORTER PART TWO

Although we are on our way to building a new pavilion, we only have enough money to build a shell of a building up to first fix.

We need to continue to raise funds this year to get the fully kitted out pavilion we all want. And we need your continued support to do this. Jane asks you to get your thinking hats on as to what we can all do as a group to get over the final finish line.

JANE ROWLANDS ROVING REPORTER PART ONE

Jane visits the clubhouse after the floods earlier in the month (January 2024). Having been flooded 10 years previously, we have fund raised to build a new pavilion and we will say goodbye to this one early in February to start the build of a new Pavilion - 1 metre up from the ground!

The Royal Navy & Royal Air Force Tennis Teams Practice at Home Park Lawn Tennis Club, Windsor

Home Park Lawn Tennis Club (HPLTC) has had a long and happy relationship with The Armed Forces for many years. When the Household Cavalry was stationed in Combermere Barracks in Windsor, they approached HPLTC for membership which we readily agreed on a “Regimental” basis. This was a successful and enjoyable time for all concerned until their base was moved out of Windsor to Salisbury Plain and they were replaced by the Welsh Guards. A few years ago we were approached by The Navy to practice on the grass prior to The Inter Services Tournament at Aorangi Park, Wimbledon. Again, this year, on Monday 1st August, Andy Rodgers, skipper of the Navy Team along with seven other players turned up for a full day’s practice. This year we also had the pleasure of hosting Andy Keeley, Captain of the RAF Team on Saturday July 30th when a practice match took place with two HPLTC members, Graeme Crowder and Dominic Bowen, as well as undertaking other drills.

Jane and Martyn Rowlands, Chair and Vice Chair of HPLTC were invited to watch the Tournament at Aorangi Park on 2nd August and had a very enjoyable day watching high quality tennis with many tight matches. The RAF were the winners on the day with Andy K lifting the honours. Congratulations to The RAF from Home Park Lawn Tennis Club. The contrast between the facilities at Aorangi Park and Home Park could not be starker, as illustrated by the some of the photos. However, we hope that the friendship with both the Navy and RAF will continue for many a year and that sometime in future we’ll have The Army back on court at Home Park too

The visit of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester, Patron of The Civil Service Sports Club (CSSC) to Home Park Lawn Tennis Club (HPLTC) Windsor on 22nd July 2022.

100 years of the CSSC

The CSSC has grown over the last 100 years into a significant sporting organisation for civil servants. They organise many events and activities. HPLTC has been hosting the Annual CSSC National Summer Tennis Tournament for the last 7 years. It has been a successful, competitive, yet at the same time friendly and relaxed tournament. The visit of HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, in celebration of the centenary, is highly significant for both the CSSC and Home Park Lawn Tennis Club. To our knowledge, this is the first Royal visit in the history of HPLTC. The visit, and in fact, the whole of the three days of the tournament was very successful and enjoyable. HPLTC’s role was to provide the tennis facilities over the 3 days whilst underpinning the whole weekend with a bbq, sandwiches, cakes and plenty of celebratory toasts!!!

The CSSC have already booked again for next year and we, at HPLTC, are looking forward to hosting them in 2023 and for many years to come. Hopefully, we will be able accommodate them in our new clubhouse next year and have an even bigger and better CSSC Tournament.

Congratulations to The CSSC on a 100 years of sporting action from all of us at Home Park Lawn Tennis Club

HANDICAP CLUB CHAMPS : SUNDAY JUNE 19TH 2022

Firstly, a massive thanks to Mark Shelmerdine for all his work in organising the Handicap tournament. It seems to have run very smoothly with all rounds finished in time for the finals!! Mark also did an absolutely mammoth effort umpiring back-to-back matches, meaning that he was sitting on the most uncomfortable seat for almost 6 hours!!!! Hopefully he can walk today! Thanks also to Helen and Anne for their umpiring slots - both over 2 hours. (sitting on a backless ladder!!!) Thanks to others who helped yesterday at the BBQ, Fiona, Chris, Preeta, Sunita and of course Martyn who worked hard cooking the now famous burgers and sausages!!
